Wayne Rooney suggests Arne Slot gets preferential treatment at Liverpool, 'if that was Amorim...'

Wayne Rooney believes Liverpool manager Arne Slot gets preferential treatment in the media compared to Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

Midweeks are not fun at Manchester United this season. The lack of fixtures is made worse by constant talk of rivals and United loanees enjoying European football.

For instance, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund provided goal contributions in the Champions League this week.

Rashford got an assist in Barcelona’s 2-1 defeat against PSG, while Hojlund’s brace secured a 2-1 win over Sporting CP for Napoli.

Reports now suggest United will consider a midweek friendly in Saudi Arabia to generate funds, after missing out on the financial rewards that come from competing in Europe.

The main objective for Ruben Amorim and United’s first team is to ensure they qualify for Europe’s most prestigious competition for next season.

Wayne Rooney references Ruben Amorim in Arne Slot criticism

Although Liverpool have enjoyed an impressive start to the season as Premier League champions, they have shown signs of weakness over the last week.

Arne Slot’s side won their opening five Premier League games before suffering a 2-1 defeat away to Crystal Palace at the weekend, before losing away to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

The Scousers have been reliant on late goals to secure three points on several occasions, and there were still signs that they need to improve. But Amorim will be hoping his United side can take points from Liverpool following the October international break.

Former United captain Wayne Rooney has questioned Slot’s decision to play a right-back at right-wing and a midfielder at right-back, suggesting that Amorim would be ‘slaughtered’ for doing the same thing.

“When you win the league, like Slot did there last season with Liverpool, sometimes some of the decisions you make get overlooked. His decision to play a midfield player at right-back and a right-back at right-wing. If that was Amorim at Man Utd, he would get absolutely slaughtered.”

Slot has credit in the bank after winning the Premier League in his first season, which, in comparison to Amorim, adds up when the media are being critical.

It is also worth noting that the United head coach will always face more scrutiny than other managers in England.

Phil Jones ranks sacked Man Utd boss higher than Arne Slot and Ruben Amorim

Ex-United defender Phil Jones believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a better manager than Slot, Amorim and Tottenham boss Thomas Frank.

Jones, who made 229 appearances for United throughout his career, reveals he considers Solskjaer to be better than all three of those managers.

On TikTok channel Planet Futebol, Jones was told to remain silent until a better manager than Solskjaer was named. The 33-year-old didn’t speak until Man City manager Pep Guardiola was mentioned.

“Ole was great,” said Jones. “We had Ole, we had Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna. Michael did brilliant at Middlesbrough, not there now.

“Kieran McKenna has done fantastic at Ipswich, and is still continuing that. Those three were really, really good. We had that season just after lockdown when there was no crowd, we were really good.”
