Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 10/2: No. No Mimes. Please Stop.

CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

You know, someone (cracks knuckles) needs to do the dirty work around here.

Being a webdork isn't all forum-megapowers and glory, you know. You need to fill in the cracks, grab the stories that your team is too busy talking football to touch, scrub the toilets (we have no janitor on staff), and take out the garbage.

Such is my lot, especially today.

THE DAILY BLOVIATION

I haven't discussed it in a while, but some of our friends from the Colorado Buffaloes fan community are still watching our YouTube programs and commenting on the forums. Many are simply looking for information on how their favorite alum, Shedeur Sanders, is doing. Still, some feel cheated when we don't discuss him and accuse us of irrational hatred towards him.

I review our YouTube videos and the comments each day, and the other day, I decided to talk to one of them about why he thought we hated Shedeur Sanders. He came back saying that we hate his confidence and so forth, which made no sense whatsoever.

Frankly, a blazingly successful Shedeur Sanders would be the best news this site and our fan base have had in years. I doubt that there's anyone on our staff or visiting our forums who wouldn't embrace Sanders leading the Browns to the promised land.

We don't neglect to talk about Shedeur because we dislike him, but instead because he's a third-string quarterback who occasionally (maybe) helps run the scout team and is otherwise irrelevant to the on-field performance of the 2025 Cleveland Browns. The Browns saved him from an even deeper drop in the draft order and are patiently trying to develop him into a legitimate NFL quarterback.

Regardless, Sanders still receives a lot of attention in the media because mentioning him elicits a reaction from a national audience that may not know who Luke Wypler is, but is undoubtedly familiar with Shedeur. So, it's a subject mostly reserved for clickbaiters and hot-take artists desperately seeking engagement or relevance from more casual fans.

One of those, it appears, is ex-coach Rex Ryan, who, for reasons unknown to me, was invited onto ESPN's televised "Get Up" program. Apparently, there are still people out there who care what he thinks, or are at least entertained by his tendency to be outspoken.

Well, Ryan did what folks of his ilk tend to do, which is to start hollering about Sanders the other day. The impetus for this was the comments Sanders made when he foolishly spoke with a local sports talk radio station. The station got him to say that he feels he could do a better job at quarterback than some starters around the league, and Ryan went off on him for his remarks, not getting his "ass in the front row," and not studying the playbook. And so forth.

It is a reasonable guess that Rex Ryan has no clue how studious or not Sanders has been behind the scenes, but that's beside the point. The point is that he was able to bring attention to himself, thereby remaining somewhat relevant in the media space of ex-players and coaches turned hot take artists.

This becomes relevant when Sanders appears before the local media and, when asked about the ascension of Dillon Gabriel to the Browns' starting quarterback, forgoes the opportunity to be supportive of his teammate to deliver a strange response, where he pretended to talk but never made a sound.

Mime

He went there. He totally went there. (Photo: Unsplash.com)

He went mime. You never go mime. Mimes are the worst. I don't appreciate the artistry of mime; that, clearly, is a part of European culture that my mind struggles to grasp, and therefore engenders a deep-rooted fear. In this respect, it's similar to soccer, black-and-white films, and organ meats.

At any rate, this was apparently all in response to Ryan, or someone told Adam Schefter it was.

To me, it's an embarrassment all around. It's an embarrassment for Sanders, who looked silly and childish doing it. It's an embarrassment for desperate-for-attention sports media that orbits Sanders as the Browns steadily work to groom him as a quarterback.

And people wonder why sports writing is considered a base profession reserved for charlatans, troublemakers, and webdorks.

But you know what really frosts me? It's an embarrassment to me that I feel compelled to even write about it because this irrelevant tripe is front-and-center on a Thursday morning after the Browns made a momentous decision at quarterback, in a scenario where the team actually has a chance to compete in the AFC North if they can get their act together on special teams and offense.

So, I'll stop. I'm swearing off Sanders stories until he's actually relevant to the team's on-field performance.

Or, at least until the next one gives me a chance to rant.

I like ranting.

I hate mimes.
