2 Delta jets collide at New York's LaGuardia Airport

NEW YORK (TNND) — Two Delta Air Lines jets collided on a taxiway at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Wednesday night, injuring one person.

Flight 5047 from Charlotte, North Carolina, arrived at the airport around 10 p.m. when the wing of flight 5155, preparing to leave for Roanoke, Virginia, crashed into the fuselage, also known as the body, of the aircraft, Delta told The National News Desk in a statement.

The planes involved in the "low-speed collision" are both CRJ-900 regional jets operated by Endeavor Air.

“We have two CRJs on (taxiway) M that collided,” the pilot of flight 5047 said in air traffic control audio. “Their right wing clipped our nose and the cockpit wind screens.”

The flight from Charlotte had 57 passengers and the flight from Roanoke had 28 passengers, Delta said. Customers were taken back to the terminal by bus and provided with food and drinks before being escorted to their hotel rooms and receiving rebookings.

A Delta spokesperson confirmed a flight attendant suffered a minor injury and was treated by EMTs before being taken to a local hospital. No other passengers were injured.

“Delta will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as safety of our customers and people comes before all else. We apologize to our customers for the experience,” the airline said in its statement.

"Delta will fully cooperate with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the FAA, NTSB and others to review what occurred," the airline added.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported air traffic control told the flight to Roanoke to "hold short and yield to the other aircraft."

The incident is under investigation by the FAA.
