Report: Everton now eyeing January move to sign ‘special’ £17m right-back, he’s open to move

Everton are interested in making another move to sign Sevilla right-back Juanlu Sanchez after failing to get him to Merseyside in the summer, according to Vamos Mi Sevilla.

The Toffees enjoyed an impressive summer transfer window, bringing in a host of new players to try and help rebuild David Moyes' squad. Plenty of players headed through the exit door, meaning a lot of reinforcements were necessary, and they were unable to strengthen in every single position, understandably.

Signing a new right-back was likely to be one of the targets for the Merseyside club, but they failed to get a deal over the line. Everton focused heavily on bringing in new attacking options, including Thierno Barry, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Jack Grealish, but there's certainly an argument to suggest that adding another full-back to their squad would have been hugely beneficial considering the options they currently have.

Everton Back in Race to Sign Juanlu Sanchez

According to a report from Vamos Mi Sevilla, Everton are back in the race to sign Spanish right-back Juanlu, after being linked with a move to secure his signature in the summer transfer window. The versatile Sevilla full-back has found himself as a backup so far this season, and the La Liga club could demand in the region of £17m in the January window.

Described as a 'special' talent by La Liga, Juanlu's versatility could make him a useful option in the Everton side. He's predominantly a right-back, but he can also play on the wing, and has even been deployed as a central midfielder during his career. The Toffees currently have Jake O'Brien, Nathan Patterson, and Seamus Coleman as their options on the right-hand side of defence, but none of the three are likely to be long-term options.

O'Brien is playing out of position at right-back, and although he's done a solid job for Moyes, he's not without his limitations. Coleman is reaching the latter stages of his career and struggles to play too regularly due to injury issues, while Patterson's career has stagnated and he's struggled to progress due to a lack of game time.

As a result, signing a right-back could become a priority for Everton in January, with most other positions sorted in the summer, and with Juanlu available at a reasonable price, it could be a smart move.
