The Super Bowl halftime show was supposed to be a big celebration. However, it turned into a federal case after Bad Bunny got confirmed toheadline the Super Bowl LVI halftime show. He’s the first solo Latino artist to ever headline the show, but the environment starts to get extremely tense from now on.

Corey Lewandowski, a Trump advisor and Homeland Security official, has told undocumented immigrants to leave the country before the game. He says ICE will work Super Bowl 60, and there will be no safe spaces for them at the year’s biggest game.

Next year’s Super Bowl is now set tobe a political battleground for sure because BB is part of the halftime show. With Trump in the presidential seat, things got even tougher for him.
The 31-year-old is already infamous as a massive Trump hater and anti-ICE activist. Recently, he told i-D magazine that he didn’t take his 30-show Puerto Rican residency to mainland America due to concerns over ICE and the safety of his fans. He was very specific about the threat that ICE might raid his concerts and target his supporters.
But nobody knew it would actually happen. The former Trump campaign manager fired back during an appearance on The Benny Show. He called Bad Bunny’s selection “shameful” and said the artist “seems to hate America so much.”
Lewandowskitold Benny Johnson, “We should be trying to be inclusive and not exclusive. There are plenty of great bands and entertainment people out there who could be playing at that show that would be bringing people together and not separating them.”
Trump advisor warns that ICE agents will be at the 2026 Super Bowl, where Bad Bunny is set to perform the Halftime Show.

Then he made it clear ICE enforcement would happen regardless of the event or performer. No exceptions. Not even for the Super Bowl.
He added, “I don’t care if it’s a concert for Johnny Smith or Bad Bunny or anybody else. We’re going to do enforcement everywhere. We are going to make Americans safe. That is a directive from the president. If you’re in this country illegally, do yourself a favor: go home.”
The threat was aimed at undocumented immigrants planning to attend the game or any event where Bad Bunny performs. Lewandowski framed it as a safety measure. Meanwhile, critics called it intimidation designed to keep Latino fans away from the Super Bowl.
Fans Blast Trump Advisor Over Threat to “American Citizen” Bad Bunny
It led to endless chatter after Lewandowski’s comments. Fans didn’t hold back. The majority pointed out the obvious flaw in his logic because Bad Bunny is a U.S. citizen from Puerto Rico.
One fanwrote, “Is the ‘president’ making public threats to an American private citizen and his team that consists of American citizens?”
A second fanshouted, “Y’all know Puerto Rico citizens are Americans right! Please stop sounding stupid. The rest of the world is already squinting and cringing at us. FFS.”
The third onejoked, “Super Bowl ads cost millions but ICE got free promo at halftime thanks to Corey’s speech!”
A fourth noteshared, “Bad Bunny turning the halftime show into Fast and Furious ICE edition sounds wild 😜.”
The fifthasked, “Does Trump know Puerto Rico is part of the USA? Serious question.”
The confusion wasn’t surprising. Lewandowski’s comments suggested Bad Bunny was a threat. But he’s not an immigrant. He’s not undocumented. He’s a U.S. citizen born in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory since 1898.
The Super Bowl halftime show typically avoids political controversy but it seems not possible this time. BB’s selection guaranteed it would be different and Lewandowski’s comments ensured it would be explosive.
