The Chiefs and DC Steve Spagnuolo are once again dealing with CB Kristian Fulton's ankle injury.
The week of work continues to roll on for the Kansas City Chiefs, and Monday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars looms large. The club is mostly healthy, but there’s one key situation worth monitoring.
Unfortunately for the reigning AFC champs, it’s something they’ve grown accustomed to. Although everyone practiced on Thursday, a key piece of the secondary was limited.

For yet another practice, cornerback Kristian Fulton was limited in work. The Chiefs relayed such on their afternoon injury report.

This marks the fourth practice in a row Fulton is limited. The first-year Chief is nursing an ankle injury suffered in Week 2. He missed all of Week 3’s work with the ailment. Kansas City decided to list him as questionable for last Sunday’s win over the Baltimore Ravens, although he wound up missing the contest.
It’s certainly been a slow-burning debut season for Fulton with the Chiefs. Signed to a two-year deal in free agency, buzz immediately built. Unfortunately, he spent a huge chunk of the offseason recovering from a knee procedure. He came off the physically unable to perform list in time for some preseason snaps, but this ankle injury set him back once again.
Without Fulton, who’s played all of 17 defensive snaps, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is leaning on a multitude of players. The primary two, Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, have been fantastic this year. Rookie third-round pick Nohl Williams is also emerging as a physical presence at corner. His style of play on the boundary affords McDuffie more snaps in the slot, where he typically fares better.
Given a lengthened week of preparation, Friday and Saturday’s practices should indicate Fulton’s actual status for Monday Night Football in Jacksonville.
Mike Danna Dubbed a Full Participant for Second Thursday in a Row
On a more positive note, everyone else who appeared on the injury report was a full participant. That includes defensive end Mike Danna, who’s nursed a quad ailment.
Like with Fulton, it’s important to monitor Danna’s participation in subsequent days. Despite progressing from limited to full participation last Wednesday to Thursday, he was limited on Friday. That led to him carrying a “doubtful” designation into a the Ravens game and missing another weekend of work. In the event Danna is a full participant for multiple days in a row, it’d bode well for his Week 5 status.
Danna, a 2020 fifth-round pick, has spent his entire career with the Chiefs. The former Central Michigan and Michigan standout played a whopping 44 snaps — 67.7% of available reps — in Week 1’s close loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. While George Karlaftis‘ improved play and rookie Ashton Gillotte‘s effort have kept things rolling, anything Danna can provide would help.
Kansas City comes into Week 5 having won back-to-back games. After dropping heartbreakers to Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles, they responded with statement triumphs over the New York Giants and Ravens. According to SumerSports, Spagnuolo’s defense is right in the middle of the pack (15th) with an EPA/play mark of -0.02.
Getting some reinforcements could help that ranking soar even higher down the stretch.
