Most of the discourse around rookie quarterbacks last offseason was centered around the first overall pick, Caleb Williams. However, Williams, who was drafted by the Chicago Bears, struggled mightily in his first season of professional action.
Instead, the standout quarterback of the 2024 class was Jayden Daniels, who landed with the Washington Commanders, although it’s worth noting that Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J.McCarthy lost all of his rookie season to a meniscus injury he suffered in preseason.
Daniels was impressive throughout the regular season, but really shone in the playoffs. The rookie led Washington all the way to the NFC Championship before losing to the eventual Super Bowl Champions.
Daniels is hoping to take things a step further this season and reach the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the road in front of him is going to be an arduous one, at least for the time being, with some brutal injury news being confirmed for the pieces around him.
“Commanders now have ruled out WR Terry McLaurin, WR Noah Brown and G Sam Cosmi for Sunday’s game vs. the Chargers. None of those players are traveling with the team to Los Angeles today,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter wasn’t done. [He followed up with another tough update](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1973860822029119561) for Daniels’ receiving corps.
“Commanders WR Deebo Samuel also has not practiced the past two days due to a heel injury.”
It’ll be interesting to see how Daniels, who is coming off an injury himself, looks in such a depleted offense.
