Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris believes his side has enough in their ranks to cause Manchester United problems this weekend but would not be drawn into talk of it being the right time to play Ruben Amorim's side.

It won't be the first time the Black Cats boss has been to Old Trafford either, admitting to taking his United-supporting son, Noah, as a spectator. The Sunderland boss was in attendance as United defeated Manchester City 4-2 with Sergio Aguero on the scoresheet.

That being said, Le Bris says he'll be cheering on the Wearsiders this weekend. Speaking at his press conference ahead of the game, the French head coach said: "I've been once as a spectator with my son.

"I need to say that he is a huge fan of Manchester United. He will probably support Sunderland on Saturday. He is sat in the Sunderland end."

Amorim's side have struggled again this season following their dismal end to the last campaign. Their 3-1 defeat to Brentford heaped further pressure on the United head coach.

When asked if it was a good time to play Amorim's men, Le Bris said: "I don't know. We'll see at the end of the game. Being at Old Trafford demands strong personality and strong character. I still believe that we'll need to upgrade our performance to be competitive in Manchester.

"They are strong, create many chances from everywhere, direct play in behind, set pieces, with talented players. Now it’s just a question of click, confidence, circumstances, scenario.

"So for us the only thing we can control is our way of playing, the way we want to play this game, to face this challenge, being aware that it will be tough."

When asked what he'd made of the Reds' start to the season, Le Bris added: "I don't know exactly because my focus is only on us. And every weekend, obviously we'll analyze our opponent and it's just a short focus and we try to find the right way to manage their strengths, how they can create danger and we try to find a solution to get opportunities and to win the game.

"After that, I don't have a specific opinion about the club. It's a huge club with a big history. They are strong players, so hard to beat."

Sunderland continue to tick off the milestones having picked up their first away win of the season last time out against Nottingham Forest and Le Bris believes his side can cause problems this weekend.

"Yes, absolutely," the French head coach said emphatically. "Even against a squad with a strong momentum like Crystal Palace, we try. Every game is an opportunity.

"We don't know before what will be the scenario. Football is still unpredictable and one decision making can change the whole dynamic. So, knowing that, we try our best to get points. Simply."

He said: "Yes, his spell here was really important and the coaching staff like him and as a person and as a player. Now he’s an opponent. It’ll be great at the end to say hello but during the game we won't be friends."
