Manchester United might not be publicly searching for the new head coach; however, behind the scenes Ineos are certainly weighing up their options.
Appointing a new head coach is not a decision that Ineos will take lightly, and even if Ruben Amorim is not under immediate threat, plans will be underway for the inevitable.
Manchester United have been bad enough for relegation since Amorim took over, with 34 points in 33 games, which is far from good enough, and only immediate results will save the Portuguese head coach.
With pressure building, United are considering a move to appoint Roberto De Zerbi, with the Marseille head coach being an option the club also considered in 2024.
However, one option that is not popular with the fans has now been suggested by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on Sky Sports.

Manchester United told Gareth Southgate should be considered
Despite having virtually zero pedigree in club management, Gareth Southgate is a name that refuses to go away at Manchester United.
Having been out of a job since last summer, Southgate has been identified by United as a potential option to replace Amorim this season.

United fans won’t be pleased to hear of the former England manager being considered, but for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, it could be exactly what the Red Devils need, as he told Sky Sports.
“Look, I don’t like to see managers getting the sack and all that kind of stuff. But look, Gareth will be a great appointment, he will.
“He’s good at talking to the media. He’s got a brilliant playing style, he wants to play good football and dominant football.
“He will calm it down, he will be clear, in that aspect, he would be a brilliant appointment.
“He is very assured of his way, where he wants to go, and his communication skills in communicating with the people around him and the players. He’s very clear in that, and yeah, he gives young players opportunities.
“He’s not afraid to give young players opportunities, and that’s what Man United stands for.”
While the idea of appointing Southgate is a painful one, the points laid out above are an excellent argument in favour of the 55-year-old.
Gareth Southgate could steady the ship at Manchester United
Despite having some positives on his side, Southgate would not be a long-term solution for United; however, he might just be the man to steady the ship and rebuild the culture at the club.
Wayne Rooney argued Amorim has destroyed United’s identity, something Southgate would mend.
The former Middlesbrough coach would put trust in youth, play a 4-3-3, and make United difficult to play against again, setting the scene for a potential top-level appointment after him.
Dan Ashworth wanted United to hire Southgate, and so he would be justified if the decision was made to make this happen. Short term, Southgate is an idea we can get on board with.
