After a dismal start to the 2025/26 campaign, there is no hiding from the fact that Ruben Amorim is under significant pressure at Manchester United
With just two wins from six, Manchester United are hoping to get back to winning ways when they host Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The mood is low after United’s 3-1 defeat against Brentford last week, but the only way Ruben Amorim can turn it around is by winning football matches.
Ineos have not pressed the panic button as they continue to back United’s head coach to get better results.
However, a defeat to Sunderland would only increase the pressure that Amorim is currently under at United.
Amorim must keep the players on side; otherwise, he will be on a path to nowhere at United.

Harry Maguire leading the march behind Ruben Amorim
The United job attracts more pressure than any other managerial role in football, as Wayne Rooney alluded to earlier this week.
Amorim is learning about that now, if he didn’t already know from last season.

According to Ben Jacobs, the senior players in the dressing room are rallying behind Amorim, with Harry Maguire responsible for being vocal in telling other players that they need to step up.
“The senior leadership group are all behind Ruben Amorim Harry Maguire in particular I’m told has been very vocal in telling other players that they need to stand up and be counted and this can be solved in the current formation or system, so it’s not only on the manager,” Jacobs told The United Stand.
“Most of the players want to turn things around. They believe that they can within this system.”
Maguire recently returned to the United line-up, but it remains to be seen how long he will be able to take Leny Yoro out of the team.
As one of the most experienced players in the dressing room, Maguire has recently stepped in to mentor Shea Lacey, who recently started training with United’s first team.
Unwanted record for Man Utd defence
It is quite telling that United are still waiting for their first clean sheet of the season.
The goalkeeper situation doesn’t help as Altay Bayindir has started every Premier League match thus far, while Andre Onana has joined Trabzonspor on loan.
Amorim has switched his defence around often since the start of the season, and he is prone to changing his back three during games with the help of substitutions.
Hopefully, United keep their first clean sheet of the season against Sunderland on Saturday.
