Ruben Amorim's future at Manchester United is unclear and Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is one of the managers to have been linked with the role.

Eddie Howe has declared his unwavering loyalty to Newcastle following speculation that Manchester United could consider him as a potential replacement for embattled boss Ruben Amorim.

United have taken just seven points from their first six league games. A dire 2024/25 campaign meant a fast start was needed this season but United have struggled to pick up points.

A 2-1 victory over Chelsea lifted the mood at Old Trafford and it was hoped the result could kickstart United's season. However, any momentum they were looking to build was soon squashed by the 3-1 defeat at Brentford last weekend.

Should United part ways with Amorim, Howe has been mentioned as a possible replacement. Gareth Southgate is also said to be in the running, with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner the favourite.

Howe was asked at his pre-match press conference on Friday about the speculation linking him with United if Amorim is sacked. "I'm all in (at Newcastle). My commitment here is 100% here and always has been. My family is still here, and we are fighting every day to make a success of what we are doing," he said.

"The season ahead could be a wonderful thing, and that is what we are trying to focus on, trying to make a success of the games we have coming up."

United face Sunderland on Saturday knowing they need a win to lift the mood at Old Trafford ahead of the international break.

Amorim will speak to the media this afternoon and will no doubt be asked about his future at the club. You can get all the updates from Amorim in our live press conference blog.
