'Very close': Thomas Tuchel says Jack Grealish is nearing something 'special' at Everton…

Thomas Tuchel has now tried to explain why he did not select Everton’s Jack Grealish for the latest England squad.

It will be a decision that will be heavily scrutinised considering how well the 30-year-old has been playing for Everton this season.

Grealish made the move from Manchester City on a season-long loan over the summer in search for more regular football.

Having moved, Grealish was named Player of the Month in August for the Premier League, where he racked up four assists.

However, Grealish will not be playing for England in their upcoming games against Wales and Latvia.

And the Three Lions manager has shared his reasoning behind his selection and decision not to call up Grealish.

Why Thomas Tuchel did not select Everton’s Jack Grealish for England

Despite not calling up the likes of Jude Bellingham, there was no room for Grealish to make his overdue return to the squad.

Tuchel told players he would select his squad based on form, which does not entirely seem to be the case

Speaking to the media from St. George’s Park on Friday morning, Tuchel has shared exactly why he did not select the 30-year-old winger.

“There is no problem between me and Jack Grealish. Very special players,” said Tuchel.

“Phil [Foden] is back to influencing games and deciding games for Manchester City. Jack is very close to being the best version of himself. A very special player and a very special character, there is no problem at all and there is no personal problem in the nomination.”

Tuchel has previously praised Grealish in the earlier stages of the season following his first England call-up of 2025/26.

However, it seems as if Grealish still has more to prove to the German.
