Man United are preparing for a Premier League clash against Sunderland at the weekend.
Before the season, it would have been earmarked as a game for United to get a result, especially at home, but based on the start of the season, the Black Cats could hand United some real troubles this weekend.
Chris Sutton predicts Man United defeat
Ahead of the game on Saturday, Man United are hoping to secure three points, but former Premier League attacker Chris Sutton thinks it could be a miserable day for Amorim’s side at Old Trafford.
In his weekly predictions on BBC Sport, Sutton predicted that Man United would lose 1-0 against the Black Cats at Old Trafford. He said: “It is just all muddled thinking at United and Amorim is starting to look like a guy who wants to be put out of his misery.
“They are just not improving under him, although he might actually get a result here off the back of me saying Sunderland will win.”
Sutton ripped into Man United’s defenders for their performance against Brentford last weekend, and said that there is only so much blame that you can put on Amorim. “You can blame Ruben Amorim for that as much as you like but when your centre-half is running out and taking a chance on an offside on a long ball, like Harry Maguire did for Brentford's first goal last week, then that is just terrible defending.
“That's where I feel for Amorim. Altay Bayindir should also have done better with Brentford's second goal and the goalkeeping situation is perplexing too - they have brought Senne Lammens in, but where is he?”
What changes could Amorim make against Sunderland?
Amid Sutton’s prediction, he mentioned the goalkeeper situation. You would think that if United continue to lose games, he will make a change, and new keeper Lammens could get a start. He hopes to feature this weekend at Old Trafford for his first United appearance.
In terms of the rest of the defence, Maguire was singled out for a poor game against Brentford, and so Amorim could easily leave the English defender out by playing the likes of Matthijs De Ligt, Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw instead.
