The Dallas Cowboys arguably have the best offense in the NFL, so it seems counterintuitive to say they need a spark. However, they are extremely banged up right now.
We'll get into the growing injury list in a minute, but it seems that Jaydon Blue's long-awaited debut will come sooner rather than later. With Miles Sanders dealing with knee and ankle injuries, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is hearing that Blue will be active this Sunday against the Jets.
"The expectation is that this will be the week that rookie running back Jaydon Blue makes his NFL debut after being on the inactive list for the first four weeks of the year," Harris reported.
Cowboys' RB Jaydon Blue could make his NFL debut in Week 5
Sanders hasn't been ruled out just yet. The Cowboys are hoping to get him on the practice field on Friday so he has a game designation, but it sounds more likely than not that he won't play. While unfortunate for Sanders, it's long overdue for Blue to join the offense.
According to Brian Schottenheimer, the team needed to see more "consistency" from Blue, who impressed throughout training camp and in the preseason. Schottenheimer was very complimentary of the young RB this week, suggesting that Blue has put in the work to get active.
Not only is Blue's skill set the perfect complement to Javonte Williams, but the Cowboys sorely need another playmaker.
Already without CeeDee Lamb, KaVontae Turpin is expected to miss at least one game with a foot injury suffered against the Packers. Meanwhile, the offensive line could be down left tackle Tyler Guyton (concussion) and star left guard Tyler Smith, who is dealing with tendinitis in his knee. Keep in mind the OL is already missing Cooper Beebe and Tyler Booker with respective ankle injuries.
Luckily, Dak Prescott is playing at an extremely high level. And the Jets don't have an overwhelming defensive line. But Blue's playmaking ability is needed. We'd feel that way even if Sanders were healthy.
The Cowboys are likely to lean on the ground game heavily on Sunday, and you know Blue is chomping at the bit to make an impact. If he delivers, he might finally give the coaching staff a reason to keep him in the lineup.
