Jack Wilshere puzzled by what Ruben Amorim is doing at Man Utd, 'I'm trying to figure out...'

Jack Wilshere is the latest pundit to weigh in on Ruben Amorim’s situation at Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim has been at Manchester United for almost 11 months, and during that time, the results worsened.

After United’s 3-1 defeat against Brentford last time out, Amorim’s side has managed just two wins from six Premier League matches.

It marks a slow start to the 2025/26 campaign, and to make matters worse, United’s defeat to Grimsby Town saw them eliminated from the Carabao Cup.

The only way Amorim can lift some of the pressure on his shoulders is by winning football matches, starting on Saturday when Sunderland visit Old Trafford.

Some of Amorim’s decisions have been called into question, with former academy graduate Nicky Butt questioning his use of Kobbie Mainoo after overlooking the England international in his midfield since the beginning of the season.

Jack Wilshere jokes about Man Utd shortcomings

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that he sees the funny side to United’s struggles under Amorim.

Wilshere was approached to become a coach at Arsenal during the summer, but he is waiting for an offer to become a first-team coach elsewhere.

That means Wilshere has plenty of free time to work as a pundit, which has led the former England international to comment on Amorim’s current situation at United.

After going live on Andy Goldstein’s Instagram, Wilshere told the talkSPORT presenter that he was laughing at Amorim’s decision to persist with his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

“I’m sat here just trying to figure out why Amorim is still playing 3-4-3,” Wilshere said while showing his tactics board at home.

“No, he made me laugh this week, I must admit. Who was it that you said you wanted him out and you wanted Glasner in?” he asked Goldstein.

Oliver Glasner is one of the reported candidates for the job, if Amorim is sacked, with Ben Foster tipping the Crystal Palace boss as the right man to take the team forward.

Ineos have yet to back Amorim publicly, and it is understood that they’ve sounded out Michael Carrick for the job on an interim basis.

Another coach being considered is Roberto De Zerbi, who is currently in charge of Marseille following his exit from Brighton in 2024.

Jack Wilshere’s record against Man Utd explains bitterness

Wilshere played against United 11 times throughout his playing career.

While eight of those games came during his time at Arsenal, Wilshere also played against United with Bolton and West Ham.

Wilshere never managed to score against United and was on the receiving end of six defeats down the years.
