The Jets will face another elite quarterback when Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys come to MetLife Stadium. Prescott is off to a hot start, passing for 1,119 yards, with 121 completions and 56 passing first downs to lead the NFL. He is also third in the league, completing 72.9% of his throws.
"Now, he's getting the ball out quick," DC Steve Wilks said. "He's doing a great job of really extending plays. We saw that last Sunday night [a 40-40 tie against Green Bay], and the things that he was able to do. He's not looking to run. His eyes are still down the field trying to find the open receiver, and they do a great job, too, once they realize that he's traveling, really trying to adjust their routes, whether they're going vertical, rather than coming back to the sideline. I think he does a great job in reading defenses and understanding equating pressure and getting the ball out quickly does a good job with his cadence."
With CeeDee Lamb recently sideline by an ankle injury, Prescott has turned to WR George Pickens, who caught 8 passes for 134 yards and 2 TDs against the Packers last week; and TE Jake Ferguson, who has 34 receptions for 223 yards so far this season.
"It's going to be a challenge this week," Wilks said.
STC Chris Banjo Juggling Kickoff Returners
With RB Braelon Allen on the injured list, Isaiah Davis is likely to see more action taking handoffs (and catching passes) in addition to handling kickoffs.
"We're still going through our evaluation process," special teams coordinator Chris Banjo said. "All the different guys that we're fortunate enough to have in our team, they all possess different skill sets."
Davis' skill set has been particularly productive in the four games he's returned kickoffs. He is fourth in the league with a 29.4 yard average from 11 KO returns that covered 323 yards, including a 41-yard return last week at Miami.
"I think Isaiah has been doing a phenomenal job back there, his attention to detail, his urgency to get to the ball," Banjo said. "I think he's been doing a really, really good job."
He added: "He's just a football player. He's a football player. He's highly competitive, and he has a high sense of urgency."
Since joining the Jets, Isaiah Williams has returned 3 KOs for 70 yards (23.3 yards per), with a long return of 30 yards. He has also handled 2 punts for 29 yards. Williams, however, did have a challenging game at Miami last week -- a lost fumble on a third-quarter punt, then calling for a fair catch inside the 5-yard line instead of letting the ball possibly bound into the end zone.
"We're always evaluating who can kind of give us the best opportunity," Banjo said.
On Friday, the Jets added Avery Williams to their practice squad. He was released by the Eagles in August and led the NFL in average yards per punt return for Atlanta in 2022 (16.2) and he has returned 58 punts for 630 yards in his career. Williams has also returned 54 kicks for 1,211 yards, averaging 22.4 yards per return.
