''I deserved another go': Manager says he found it so unfair when he was sacked by Everton

One former Everton manager has now spoken out about his wish for more time on Merseyside after being sacked.

When The Friedkin Group took over at the end of last year, they were left with a big decision to make on Sean Dyche’s position.

Just weeks later, David Moyes returned to the Goodison Park dugout to replace the 54-year-old.

Since making the change, Everton have gone from strength to strength, with the Blues looking like a solid team in the early weeks of the new season.

Dyche has been linked with the Rangers job amid Russell Martin’s ongoing struggles to get the Gers firing in Scotland.

However, there is another former Everton manager, who is out of work, that is adamant that he deserved more of an opportunity on Merseyside.

Sam Allardyce thinks he deserved another go at Everton job

Discussing his time at Goodison, Sam Allardyce has waxed lyrical about Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and the mentality he has shown.

Allardyce’s time at Everton was cut short, with the 70-year-old shown the door after just six months in charge of the Toffees.

Speaking on The Fozcast, Allardyce has now suggested that he could have taken the Blues to a European finish if he was given the time.

“I mean, you know, I had a great relationship with Farhad. You know, he was the one that chose me.

“But, you know, it wasn’t everybody at the Everton board level that wanted me then, you know. And if Farhad had maybe been a bit stronger and just said, no, I’m keeping Sam, because we know, you know, for Everton, particularly, we finished eighth. So I thought, I deserved another go.

“But, you know, it’s all, again, even that’s all about the football. I mean, well, we could only play the football that the team were capable of playing. And that was to get them out of trouble and get them in a safe position.

“We could have finished in Europe.”

Allardyce had taken Everton from 13th – when he took over – to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League.

Moyes is targeting European qualification for Everton to end their long drought from the European stage.

Clearly, Allardyce feels he could have done that with another season on Merseyside.

Why Everton decided to sack Sam Allardyce

Despite taking the Toffees up the Premier League table in his 28 games in charge, Allardyce was shown the door at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

In Everton’s statement chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale shared exactly why the board came to the decision.

“Sam was brought in at a challenging time last season to provide us with some stability and we are grateful to him for doing that,” she said.

“However, we have made the decision that, as part of our longer-term plan, we will be appointing a new manager this summer and will be commencing this process immediately.”

With the long-term vision of the club in mind, Everton hired Marco Silva, who only lasted 18 months in charge on Merseyside.

After seeing what he has done at Fulham, some Everton fans have pined for Silva to return in recent years.
