During the summer period of 2024 following the FA Cup glory United had at the end of the 2023/24 season, there was a huge cloud hanging over Erik ten Hag’s future.

INEOS put the uncertainty to bed and offered the Dutch manager a new two-year contract extension, but two months into the new season Ten Hag was sacked.

He was without a club until this summer, when he was announced as Bayer Leverkusen’s new manager, being the successor to Xabi Alonso. However, his time in Germany was short-lived, as the former United manager was sacked after only two league matches.

One month on from his sacking at Leverkusen, a return to one of his former clubs could be on the cards.

Ajax’s manager Johnny Heitinga is under pressure following his side’s disappointing 4-0 defeat against Marseille in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. The former Ajax manager guided the club to a historic UEFA Champions League semi-finals spot, where his side were knocked out of the competition in cruel fashion.
