Aston Villa can sign some new faces when the January transfer window opens up for business to boost Unai Emery’s squad
The Midlands outfit are back in action this weekend as they look to keep their momentum going. They face a home clash against Burnley before the international break. Emery’s men are positioned in 16th place in the table after their first six league fixtures.
Aston Villa linked with Brentford star Yehor Yarmolyuk
Aston Villa are interested in a move for Brentford midfielder Yehor Yarmolyuk, according to CaughtOffside. They are being linked with a move for the player ahead of the January transfer window. The report adds that Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on a swoop this winter.
Yarmolyuk, 21, was a set a price tag of £25 million earlier this year. He has been a key man for the Bees over recent times but they could now face a battle to keep hold of him down the line amid attention from elsewhere. His contract in West London expires in 2031 after his recently penned a bumper long-term deal.
The Ukraine international, who has four caps to his name, joined Brentford back in 2022. Prior to his move to England, he played in his native country for Dnipro. He initially played for the B team of his current club before making the step up to the first-team.
Yarmolyuk has since made 73 appearances in all competitions, seven of which have come this term. He has a bright future ahead of him in the game and is still young. He has potential to grow and develop and the Bees won’t want to lose him, especially to a league rival.
Would Yehor Yarmolyuk suit Aston Villa?
Aston Villa could see Yarmolyuk as someone to bolster their squad. If he joined, he would inject more quality into their squad. In addition, he would give them more competition and depth in the middle of the park which would be useful as they juggle domestic duties with European football.
After he penned his extension at Brentford, their ex-boss Thomas Frank, who is now at Spurs, was full of praise and said: “He’s been in our first-team squad for two seasons where he’s had a good, natural development. Last year, he got minutes in more or less all the games; this year, he’s added another level. The good thing with Yehor is that he’s one of the best trainers. He trains hard and with good intensity - that’s the best way to get into the team.”
He added: “He’s a fantastic pressing player, he’s dynamic, and he covers so much of the pitch. He’s strong in duels and he has a drive to run forward. I like the way he distributes over the pitch. Yehor has a few development areas as he’s still a young player, but he is another good example of a Brentford player who will make us better in the future and who will also get better himself.”
