Jaguars' rookie proving he's the draft biggest steal after four games

The Jacksonville Jaguars haven't gotten much production from their 2025 draft class, but that's by design. They put together a well-balanced team, so they didn't have to rush their rookie into action. That said, a Day 3 selection has quickly emerged as a key contributor on offense and special teams.

LeQuint Allen was a seventh-round pick in this year's draft. As such, not much was expected from him. However, he put his head down, got to work, and has made the most of his chances four weeks into the season.

And that's the thing, it isn't that often that you hear from the third-string running back making an impact, but that goes on to show just how valuable the former Syracuse Orangeman has been in Duval.

How did LeQuint Allen work his way up the Jaguars depth chart?

After the draft, LeQuint Allen was fourth on the depth chart behind Tank Bigsby, Travis Etienne, and fellow rookie Bhayshul Tuten. But that didn't deter them from showing up to work and making a case that he deserved playing time.

Right off the bat, Allen turned heads, with beat writers noting that you couldn't tell he was a rookie based on how he looked. Then, the regular season came, and he got snaps on offense despite the fact that he was RB4. In the season opener, the Millville, New Jersey native logged nine snaps on offense and two on special teams. Little did he know that his playing time would go up soon.

The Jags traded Bigsby after Week 1, which paved the way for both Tuten and Allen to step into bigger roles. Since then, the latter has tallied 44 snaps on offense and 16 on special teams. That's not precisely a lot but is most definitely more than what you would expect a seventh-round selection to get early in his rookie campaign.

Why has LeQuint Allen become such an integral cog fo the Jaguars?

By now, you may be wondering what LeQuint Allen does that he's earned a role on offense and special teams. And the answer is simple: Dating back to his college days, he excelled in pass protection and was a dependable pass-catcher out of the backfield. Those are underrated abilities that will help any running back carve a niche, and both of them have carried over with the Jags.

John Shipley of Sports Illustrated doesn't recall a time a Jacksonville seventh-round pick had such an impact in his first NFL season. Similarly, Nate Tice of Yahoo! Sports praised the rookie's effort when recovering a fumble teammate Travis Hunter lost in the win over the Niners.

Hard for me to remember the last 7th-round pick who has made the impact LeQuint Allen Jr. has made for the Jaguars.

And in case you were wondering what his statline looks like, Allen has three carries for 20 yards and added 20 receiving yards on three catches. On top of that, his Pro Football Focus blocking grade of 88.8 is the best among Jaguars players four weeks into the season.

The bottom line is that LeQuint Allen has been everything the Jags bargained for and then some.
