With the September transfer window closure already a month gone, articles are appearing linking [West Ham](https://www.claretandhugh.info/you-cant-have-him-west-ham-nuno-get-striker-reality-check/) with a move in the winter window – still twelve weeks away – to fix the error of Graham Potter’s ‘we don’t need a striker’ mantra. Nuno Espírito Santo has been told by the board to go away, assess the squad and report back with what he needs in January.
What he will need is likely to be to offload Jean-Clair Todibo and James Ward-Prowse, if the stories are true and the new Hammers manager has decided that neither are fit for purpose at West Ham.
Fixing the striker situation will be high on his to do list.
According to Spanish news site _[fichajes.net](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/club-premier-league-podria-fichar-vitor-roque-20251003.html),_ West Ham’s recruitment team have been closely following a former Barcelona striker and – subject to Nuno’s go ahead, could be tasked with a winter bid:
Is their article detailing :_“**Victor Roque**, a Brazilian striker with a past in Barcelona and Real Betis, could head to the Premier League after shining in Palmeiras..In England, West Ham follows in his footsteps closely. The London club is preparing an offer of 40 million euros to strengthen its forward in the January market.”_
The report doesn’t delve into the two clubs’ history from the Luis Guilherme deal – or whether the Brazilian side might want to take their young speedster back as part of the deal (as was rumoured last summer).
Victor Roque, at just 20 years old, would clearly be good a fit for West Ham’s new look youthful team: Whether Sullivan is ready to fork out another £35 million quid for a another twenty year old hot on the heels of the Fernandes deal is questionable. Espírito Santo has battles to fight in the boardroom as well as on the pitch if he is to bring in talent required to fix the threadbare attack.
