The Las Vegas Raiders are starting to enter must-win territory. At 1-3, they can quickly fall out of the AFC playoff race completely.
The Raiders travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts in Week 5, which will be a difficult matchup. Ahead of the game, Las Vegas announced a couple of roster transactions.
Notably, they have signed Alex Bachman from the practice squad to the active roster. The Raiders did the same thing with the veteran wide receiver last year, but he was eventually waived and then added back to the practice squad. The team has been getting inconsistent play from their wide receiver, so perhaps Bachman can carve out a role.

– Placed LB Brennan Jackson on the Reserve/Injured list

He’s been trying to stick on an active roster throughout his whole career. He’ll be highly motivated to make plays. Bachman has played in two games for the Raiders this season.
In order to make room for Bachman on the active roster, the team had to place linebacker Brennan Jackson. He’s been dealing with a foot injury and clearly hasn’t been able to recover. He’ll be out for at least four weeks. It doesn’t appear that this is a season-ending injury for Jackson. He has made three combined tackles in three games for the Raiders this season.
Brock Bowers Expected to Play
On Thursday, the Raiders‘ injury report revealed that star tight end Brock Bowers did not participate in practice. He was also sidelined for Friday’s practice.
However, head coach Pete Carroll revealed during his Friday press conference that the plan is for Bowers to play in Week 5. The reason he hasn’t been practicing is that the Raiders wanted to give him some extra rest to recover from the knee injury he suffered in Week 1.
Bowers clearly hasn’t been the same player in recent weeks due to the injury. He was the best tight end in the NFL last season, but he hasn’t been making much of an impact since getting hurt. Perhaps a couple of days’ rest will be what he needs, but it remains to be seen. If he’s still hampered against the Colts, the Raiders might want to consider giving him a game or two off.
Chip Kelly Talks Offensive Improvement
The Raiders‘ offense started to find some success in Week 4, especially in the run game. Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly opened up about what went right.
“No, we didn’t change anything really schematically,” Kelly said Thursday. “We did what we do, but it was, I think, just better execution. And I think the longer the group is together, the more feeling they have for each other in terms of how they’re doing it. But it was a combination of everything. It was a combination of how they really blocked and moved the front, up front.
“How our receivers were involved in the run game, and then what our backs did. And then, because we run so much play action, are we handing the ball off, or is Geno [Smith] keeping it? Geno does such a great job when he doesn’t have the ball. Did he keep it? Did he hand it off? Are some people on defense not moving their feet because they think it’s play action pass?”
