It’s a classic NFL tradition.
When two rival colleges face off, former stars at those schools who turned into NFL teammates often bet on the outcome.
That happened for at least two recent Penn State standouts after the Nittany Lions lost to Oregon in the White Out.
New York Giants rookie defensive end Abdul Carter and Indianapolis Colts rookie tight end Tyler Warren had to wear Ducks gear to their weekly media availabilities. Oregon topped Penn State, 30-24, last Saturday in front of the second-largest crowd in Beaver Stadium history.
Carter lost his bet to fellow Giants defensive lineman Kayvon Thibodeaux, while Warren lost his to Colts D-lineman DeForest Buckner.
Buckner took his win even a step further. Colts communications lead Matt Conti, a Penn State graduate, went to one of this week’s press conferences dressed as Oregon’s mascot, Puddles the Duck.
Carter and Warren have both had nice starts to their first NFL campaigns.
Carter, the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft, has made nine tackles and half a sack for the 1-3 Giants.
Warren, the No. 14 pick, has been extra impressive for the 3-1 Colts. He’s tallied 19 receptions for 263 yards while playing a few different positions, including fullback.
Carter was the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2024 with Penn State, while Warren won the Mackey Award as the nation’s best tight end.
