Syracuse, N.Y. — Fire and ambulance crews were dispatched to the home of former Syracuse and Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Arthur Jones after his defibrillator went off and a company could not reach anyone by phone, according to 911 dispatches.

The emergency call came just before 11 a.m. today, according to Onondaga County 911 records.

“He received a shock,” the dispatcher says. “Now he’s not answering the phone.”

The Ravens and Syracuse University later Friday confirmed the death of Jones, 39, who was living Pompey and raising his family in Central New York.

“I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Arthur Jones,” Syracuse coach Fran Brown said in a statement issued by the school.

Jones, a Rochester native who grew up in Endicott and was an unheralded prospect out of Union Endicott, developed into a two-time, first-team All-Big East defensive tackle and team captain by his final season at Syracuse in 2009.

He finished his college career with 38.5 career tackles for loss, the most in SU history by an interior defensive lineman.

Jones is the oldest brother of former UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and former Syracuse and NFL defensive end Chandler Jones, who was a four-time Pro Bowler and won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.

Arthur Jones was drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Ravens and played a key role in the team’s Super Bowl 47 victory against the San Francisco 49ers.
