Arthur Jones, brother of UFC superstar Jon Jones, has passed away, aged just 39 years old.
Former two-weight UFC champion Jones, who retired from the Octagon earlier this year, comes from a family that also boasts two NFL players to have reached the pinnacle of that sport. Arthur won the Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013, before younger brother Chandler achieved the same feat in 2015 as part of the New England Patriots.
After news emerged of Arthur's passing, social media was flooded with tributes from around the sporting world. Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta reflected on Arthur’s vibrant personality and the profound impact he had on those around him, writing:
"We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones’ sudden passing. Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others."
Arthur etched his name into NFL history as part of the Ravens’ 2013 Super Bowl–winning squad, playing a pivotal role in their dramatic 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. In that game, he made his presence felt with multiple tackles and a crucial sack, helping Baltimore secure its second Super Bowl title.
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Arthur spent three seasons with the Ravens before continuing his career with the Indianapolis Colts and later the Washington Redskins (now the Washington Commanders). He ultimately retired following the 2017 season, closing the chapter on a successful seven-year career in the league. Jones recorded 173 tackles, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles across 61 career NFL games.

Arthur was also a pillar of support for younger brother Jon, as he established himself as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history. Throughout Jon’s peak years inside the Octagon, Arthur was a constant presence by his side, offering encouragement and proudly standing in his corner during some of the biggest moments of Bones' career.
The UFC released their own statement in the wake of the sad news. A post shared on the organisation's social media accounts read:
"UFC is saddened to hear about the passing of Arthur Jones. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones."
Fellow UFC star Conor McGregor also paid his respects to the late defensive tackle in a heartfelt post. McGregor wrote: "Very sad to hear this news. Arthur was a great man, a friendly giant! God speed Arthur Jones."
Jones' cause of death has yet to be officially confirmed.
