Sad news came out on Friday afternoon (Oct. 3, 2025) that [Jon Jones’ brother Arthur had died](/ufc-news/393475/death-jon-jones-brother-super-bowl-champion-arthur-jones-rocks-nfl-ufc-communities) at just 39 years of age. Now we’re learning more details regarding what may have caused his death.
Syracuse NewsChannel 9 reporter Steve Infanti shared information from local law enforcement pointing to a heart issue.
“An Onondaga County Sheriff’s spokesperson tells us that Arthur Jones’ pacemaker went off this morning, automatically sending a message to his doctor,” Infanti [wrote on X](https://x.com/SteveInfantiNC9/status/1974286159812468991) (formerly Twitter). “EMS responded to Jones’ home just before 11 a.m., but he had already passed away. Jones had a pre-existing heart condition.”
Arthur was the oldest of three Jones brothers and played seven seasons in the NFL, four of those with the Baltimore Ravens where he earned a Super Bowl ring in 2013. He was also a New York State wrestling champion, and Jon Jones credited getting his ‘butt kicked’ by Arthur for acclimatizing him to the tough world of mixed martial arts.
“My brother is one of the best heavyweights in New York state wrestling history,” Jon said of Arthur in 2020. “I would wrestle him every day in high school and I would get my ass kicked by my older brother my whole life. So I’ve been getting my butt kicked since I was a little boy and I just became comfortable with combat.”
Jon Jones hasn’t commented publicly on his brother’s passing, but many others have paid their respects and sent out condolences.
