Manchester United ensured Ruben Amorim doesn’t face a nervous international break with a 2-0 win against Sunderland at Old Trafford.
Man Utd set the tone early on by creating a couple of chances, one of which was buried by Mason Mount with a smart finish off Bryan Mbeumo’s assist before ten minutes were up.
They continued to probe and threaten, missing gilt-edged chances before a Dalot long throw caused chaos, leaving Benjamin Sesko to score his first Old Trafford goal.
The second half was more about United settling into their lead, as Sunderland had sterile possession. United had the odd chance too, but it was mostly a calm day at the office for Amorim, something that hasn’t been the case often.

Man Utd player ratings vs Sunderland
Senne Lammens – 7.5
A brilliant save, a cool aerial ball collection, and some nice passes made for a confident and assured debut.
Leny Yoro – 7
His long limbs were needed for the odd ball played in behind, and he handled it perfectly. Even overlapped on occasion.
Matthijs de Ligt – 7
Cleared the final ball on multiple occasions. Thrives as the sweeper in the middle of a back three.
More United News
Luke Shaw – 6.5
Got a bit too handsy in the box at times, which could have cost United. Weakest of the back three but not bad at all.
Amad – 7.5
Determined to make an impact against the team he broke out with. Final product was missing but full of direct running.
Diogo Dalot – 6.5
A difficult game for him on the ball as he misplaced passes, overhit crosses, and showed bad touches of the ball. His long throws were dangerous and caused Sesko’s goal.
Casemiro – 6.5
Showcased controlled aggression until a wild lunge in the second half saw him get booked. Missed a good chance at the edge of the box.
Bruno Fernandes – 7.5
A beautiful curler almost gave him a goal. Was not needed much in defence, and when that’s the case, he’s unstoppable in attack.
Bryan Mbeumo – 7.5
Assisted United’s opener with a brilliant cross and looked like a threat every time he was on the ball. Sloppy in the second half.
Mason Mount – 8
Calmed Old Trafford with a neatly taken early goal. It would have left Ruben Amorim delighted because his call to start him was contentious before the game.
Benjamin Sesko – 7.5
Created space for Mount for the opener before scoring with a proper striker’s finish for the second.
Substitutes
Matheus Cunha – 6.5
Won some fouls with his direct running but his lack of defensive effort saw him get an earful from his teammates.
Patrick Dorgu – 6
Wasn’t much of an improvement on Dalot as United ceded possession and secured their lead.
Kobbie Mainoo – 6.5
Old Trafford faithful gave him a raucous reception when he came on in the 73rd minute. Showed some silky touches.
Manuel Ugarte – 6
Came on late when Casemiro got booked again. Not much impact.
Harry Maguire – 6
The customary centre-back sub late on.
