Rio Ferdinand impressed by skilful Man Utd star vs Sunderland, Ruben Amorim vindicated

Manchester United needed a win against Sunderland, and Ruben Amorim made some big calls in the search for three points.

Old Trafford was in the eye of the storm this weekend as Manchester United had to win; otherwise, managerial change seemed to be on the cards.

United shot into the lead through Mason Mount, as Bryan Mbeumo got his first assist for the club.

Benjamin Sesko then doubled United’s advantage, getting his second of the season to give the Red Devils a comfortable lead in the first half.

United beat Sunderland 2-0 in the end, in what was the most comfortable result in a long time.

To claim this victory, Ruben Amorim changed the goalkeeper, with Senne Lammens brought into the starting line-up to great success.

Meanwhile, Amorim also made another big call further up the pitch.

Mason Mount took his chance in the Manchester United starting line-up

When Matheus Cunha wasn’t named in United’s starting line-up, eyebrows were raised given the Brazilian’s quality and the fact that he arrived to be the new face of the club.

However, he hasn’t had as impressive a start to life in red as Mbeumo and Sesko, which explains why he was the casualty in place of Mount starting.

Despite the decision being a surprise, it quite quickly saw Amorim vindicated when Mount opened the scoring eight minutes into the clash against Sunderland.

Mount also created chances, and his pressing regularly pushed Sunderland’s back line into making mistakes.

With there clearly not being much between Mount and Cunha in Amorim’s eyes, it is certainly advantage Mount now.

Rio Ferdinand reacts to Mason Mount’s goal vs Sunderland

The goal Mount scored deserves plenty of praise as he expertly controlled Mbeumo’s cross with his left foot, before sliding the ball into the bottom corner with his right foot.

The goal impressed Rio Ferdinand, who took to his X account, posting a message which read, “Touch / Finish”, alongside an emoji which is universally applied to skillful moments.

Mount deserves this praise as he is always so classy with his touches, and this goal is just the latest example of this.

Now, the pressure will be on Cunha to earn the spot back, but if Mount keeps scoring, it could be easier said than done.
