Man Utd defeated Sunderland in the Premier League to ease the pressure on head coach Ruben Amorim.

Mason Mount praised Senne Lammens after he made his Manchester United debut in their 2-0 victory over Sunderland in the Premier League. The 23-year-old was selected in the starting line up for the first time since he joined from Royal Antwerp in the summer transfer window.

Lammens has had to wait for his opportunity at United, but he made up for lost time as he produced a commanding display to earn an impressive clean sheet. The Belgian goalkeeper made a couple of routine saves and was confident when it came to claiming crosses into the box.

There will be much tougher tests ahead for Lammens, but Mount was delighted with the performance from his newest teammate on a positive day for the entire team.

"It's important in the Premier League keeping clean sheets, you have chances to score and then to keep the clean sheet in the second half was so important," Mount told BBC Sport. "He was solid, when we were under pressure, the option was Ben [Sesko] and we worked off that. Buzzing for him, everyone was around him today, it can be tough making your first start we want to be together and I felt that today so we keep moving forward."

Lammens arrived with the ambition to become the club's next first-choice goalkeeper and will hope to keep his starting role when United travel to face Liverpool after the upcoming October international break. Ruben Amorim echoed Mount in his praise for the goalkeeper, and explained why he had to wait over a month before he made his debut.

"He looks confident in the first game, but the important thing is the teammates help Senne to have a good game. Everyone is focused, not a lot of mistakes, we did well as a group effort," Amorim said in his post-match press conference.

"When Senne arrived here, first of all Altay was playing and then he arrives and you can feel he needs to adapt, new country, new training, the pressure you guys put on the goalkeeper was massive. Now he is just one game and needs to work, he needs to be prepared that in our club, things are hard."
