Real Madrid are planning a sensational swoop on Manchester City for 2024 Ballon d'Or winner Rodri. The Spanish titans could potentially look to lure Pep Guardiola's side into a deal with a staggering £130million offer for the midfield maestro.
However, City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak is resolute in his determination to keep Rodri at the Etihad. There is an underlying fear at City that Rodri might be enticed by a move to the Bernabeu, should Pep Guardiola decide to depart.
As such, Al-Mubarak is preparing to initiate contract discussions with the 29-year-old, hoping to keep him away from Real's grasp. Rodri's current contract extends until 2027, and City are prepared to offer him a significant pay rise, in exchange for the Spanish international committing the remainder of his career to the club.
Rodri spent the entirety of last season out due to a severe knee injury, following surgery on ruptured ligaments. His absence saw Guardiola's team surrender their Premier League title to arch-rivals Liverpool.
Since joining them from Atletico Madrid in a £62m deal in 2019, Rodri has been pivotal in City's remarkable success. He has clinched 11 major trophies, including the treble in 2023, and continues to be a crucial part of the team's future plans.
