Mason Mount continues to have the trust of **Ruben Amorim**and repaid it with the opening goal of the game against Sunderland. The three points for **Man United**confirmed how often the team “start sharply at home” and indicate to the Englishman that there are qualities to be used more consistently.
‘It was a very good feeling’
Back-to-back wins have been elusive for **Man United**under Ruben Amorim, but their growth has been notable at home in wins against **Burnley**and **Chelsea,**as well as the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal.
“I know it has been difficult recently, but a really important win today, especially at home – I feel like we’ve been very solid. We look forward now, we keep moving forward and stay together as a team.”
All of those performances featured fast starts—something Mount sees as key to setting high standards.
“When we start sharply at home, there’s definitely a good chance that we can win the game. Getting that first goal and then getting another goal in the first half really helped us going forward.”
Before **Benjamin Sesko**slotted away the second, Mount made the momentum of the hosts count.
“It does feel a bit like slow motion. I think Bryan crossed it. As it’s coming across, the ball just looks like it’s in slow-motion, as you take the touch, all I remember is seeing the defender coming towards me, and I just had to try and use him. Lucky enough, it went in. It was a really good feeling.”
His only other two Premier League goals for the team have been at the Gtech Community Stadium in a 1-1 draw and a 4-3 loss to Brentford. He was proud to notch a strike in front of the home fans.
“It was a very good feeling getting on the scoresheet, first goal at home in the Premier League - it’s been a long time coming. Hopefully a few more to come now. Whenever I play, I want to get on the scoresheet, I want to help the lads around me and bring that energy on to the pitch.”
The Englishman expressed his happiness at seeing the team hold onto a clean sheet in this triumph.
“I think it’s so important to get the clean sheet as well, so all-round a good day today. There was a lot of pressure on today so for us to step up mentally, to really show character, was so important.”
The international break puts a pause on club action, and the attacker emphasised what needs to happen next if the Red Devils are going to keep moving forward and do not end up relapsing into bad habits.
“It’s big for the morale. We’re going to have a long break into the next one so it’s about continuing improving in training. I know we have a few days off now.”
Next up is a trip to **Anfield**against a **Liverpool**outfit who have lost three on the spin, including two in the Premier League, and are going to be eager to show they are ready to fight for their crown.
“When we come back in to Carrington, we’ll be working hard to get ready for that next game. It’s so important, every game is so important, and we want to get as many three points as we can.”
