Blackpool have not had a great start to the 2025/26 season.

The Seasiders currently sit 23rd in League One, after picking up only eight points in the league campaign.

This season, after heavy investment into the playing squad over the summer, the Tangerines are below expectations for where they should be.

After 11 matches of the League One campaign, the side have suffered seven losses, with two draws and only two wins.

It’s a paltry result and leaves Blackpool a long way away from former glories.

Blackpool have fallen heavily since the 2010/2011 when they were playing in the English Premier League.

After one season in English football’s top flight, they suffered relegation back to The Championship.

Four season later, they dropped further when they were relegated to League One and suffered their biggest humiliation when they played in League Two in 2016/17.

This year was supposed to be different and the start of the ascend back up the pyramid.

However, if they are to do that, then they’ll need to do it with a new manager.

Blackpool Football Club have officially confirmed in a statement that they have sacked manager Steve Bruce after 11 league matches and 59 matches in total.

The former Manchester United captain was given his marching orders after his side’s 2-0 loss against AFC Wimbledon at Bloomfield Road today.

A run of one win in his last eight matches is evidently the line crossed that has seen him sacked tonight.

Bruce has a wealth of experience in management, as the 64-year-old started his managerial career back in 1998 at Sheffield United.

The man who lifted the very first English Premier League trophy, as captain of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, has been in the dugout for teams such as Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday, just to name some.

Steve Bruce took the Blackpool job in 2024 after a two year hiatus from management following an 8 month tenure at West Bromwich Albion.

Blackpool have confirmed that Bruce, his Assistant Head Coach Steve Agnew and First-Team Coach Stephen Clemence have all left the club.

Stephen Dobbie and Steve Banks will take temporary charge of the team until a permanent manager is confirmed by the club.
