The Jacksonville Jaguars are entering Week 5 at 3-1, and anyone who watched the one game the Jaguars lost know they should actually be undefeated. Nevertheless, the referees made a horrible call, and Jacksonville still has one of the best records in the league. Unfortunately, the team isn’t getting much recognition just yet.
Whenever the Jaguars are brought up in National conversations, it’s about how Travis Hunter is or isn’t being used, or Liam Coen’s postgame encounter with San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. The team has rarely been praised for what it has done well on the field through four weeks, but Jacksonville has the perfect opportunity in Week 5 to change that. Facing off against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night, the Jaguars could get everyone’s attention.
Jaguars could send a message to the NFL on Monday Night Football
Week 5 is somewhat of a perfect storm for Jacksonville to say loud and clear that it’s time for the league to pay attention to them. The Jaguars are playing in a primetime game, and it’s against the Chiefs — that means everyone will be watching. It will be a nationally televised game, and against the most dominant, and popular team in recent years.
While Kansas City hasn’t been in elite form this year, coming into the game at 2-2, everyone still believes the Chiefs are the Chiefs. That means they are expected to take care of Jacksonville. The Jaguars could disrupt those expectations by showing up how they did in the first four weeks of the season.
Through four games, Jacksonville has a top 10 offense, averaging 348.5 yards a game, and the No. 5 scoring defense, allowing just 18 points a game. The team’s strength, though, has been the defense’s ability to take the ball away. The Jaguars have a league-leading 13 takeaways this year, and have recorded at least two interceptions in each game.
If the defense can take the ball away from Patrick Mahomes like that, and the Jaguars come out victorious, they will be impossible to ignore.
