Manchester United recorded a comfortable 2-0 win against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Manager Ruben Amorim made a big change in his starting XI, handing Senne Lammens his United debut after his £18.2 million transfer from Royal Antwerp earlier this summer.
The Belgian produced a fabulous display, earning an 8/10 rating in our post-match analysis.
First-half goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko were enough for the Red Devils to seal three points.
Speaking after the game, Mount was full of praise for his new teammate.
He said to BBC Sport: “It’s important in the Premier League keeping clean sheets, you have chances to score and then to keep the clean sheet in the second half was so important.
“He was solid, when we were under pressure, the option was Ben [Sesko] and we worked off that.
“Buzzing for him, everyone was around him today, it can be tough making your first start we wat to be together and I felt that today so we keep moving forward.”
The 23-year-old made three saves, including one fantastic stop to deny Granit Xhaka from distance.
He also claimed two high balls with authority, each time greeted by loud cheers from the Old Trafford crowd.
Lammens kept things neat with his short passing, though his long distribution left room for improvement.
The debutant capped off his performance with a brave 91st-minute save, racing off his line to smother Chemsdine Talbi and narrow the angle brilliantly.
It was a commanding performance in goal, a refreshing change after two years of shaky performances from Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.
United fans have long called for Lammens to be given a chance, but Amorim had stuck with Bayindir until now.
This display should finally convince the Portuguese coach that Lammens has the quality to be United’s new first-choice goalkeeper.
