Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was treated for stab wounds and arrested on three related crimes following an altercation in Indianapolis early Saturday morning.
Sanchez, 38, is an NFL analyst for Fox Sports and is in Indianapolis to cover Sunday's NFL game between the Colts and the visiting Las Vegas Raiders, the Indianapolis Star reported.
Local police investigated "a physical disturbance that happened near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street" at 12:30 a.m. early Saturday morning, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police said in a social media post.
The IMP did not identify the individuals involved but said one received lacerations and the other had stab wounds in an "isolated incident" between two people visiting from out of town.
Fox Sports confirmed that Sanchez is one of the two individuals in the police report and is in stable condition while recovering from his wounds, according to ESPN.
"We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support," Fox Sports officials said in a statement.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family's privacy during this time."
The IMP said it arrested Sanchez while he was being treated for his stab wounds on three alleged misdemeanor offenses.
He could be charged with public intoxication, battery and unlawful entry of a vehicle if the Marion County Prosecutor's Office chooses to press charges, NBC News reported.
The IMP did not describe the events leading to the altercation or say whether the other man was arrested and might be charged.
Sanchez is a California native who was a starting quarterback at the University of Southern California and a first-round draft pick for the New York Jets in 2009.
He played four seasons for the Jets, two for the Philadelphia Eagles and one each for the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders.
