At least one Chicago Bear is not happy with the NFL snubbing a teammate for a weekly award.
Earlier this week, the NFL announced the offensive, defensive and special teams players of Week 4 in the NFC:
Blackwell was named special teams player of the week after his game-winning blocked field goal — his second time earning the honor in just five games.
Jaquan Brisker Says Teammate Was ‘Robbed’
But Bears safety Jaquan Brisker is not satisfied with just one teammate being recognized.
The fact it should be two Bears players on here… KB got robbed ! G check out his stats,” Brisker posted on X. Brisker takes exception with Mitchell winning the award over fellow safety Kevin Byard.
The stats highlighted in the NFL’s X post are Mitchell’s five tackles and five pass defenses, but Byard had two interceptions and seven tackles in the Bears 25-24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
Another X user replied to Brisker saying, “(They) really took 5 tackles over 2 INT’s Quanny I’m sick.”
Brisker responded, “Too good to be true. Sheesh.”
Byard and Mitchell Had Great Performances
Byard not only recorded two interceptions but also totaled 47 return yards. He returned one 35 yards to the Raiders’ 24-yard line, setting up a field goal, and brought the other back 12 yards from the Raiders’ 36 to the 24, leading to another. Those two plays accounted for six crucial points in a one-point game.

Mitchell’s performance was unusual. He recorded five pass defenses, breaking up five passes, but didn’t return any for his team. He also had fewer tackles (5) than Byard. While Mitchell was highlighted for his low passer rating allowed when targeted (39.6, per Pro Football Reference), Byard’s rating in the same game was even lower at 20.6.
Brisker also tweeted: “Two picks and some tackles … is not worthy no more ?!?! They ain’t wanna put two bear players on it. Cause cmon now. A pick alone is worth GOLD.”
Bears Escaped with the Victory Over the Raiders
The Bears moved to 2-2 on the season. Chicago’s defense stepped up to hold the Raiders to a late field goal, before quarterback Caleb Williams overcame a strong Las Vegas pass rush to lead a winning drive. A 2-yard rush by D’Andre Swift put the Bears ahead.
All of that set up Mitchell’s blocked field goal off the foot of Daniel Carlson.
“That’s a huge character win for our team,” Bears coach Ben Johnson said. “I just love it for them.”
Blackwell called the block “an out-of-body experience.” He approached almost unchallenged from the left side, leapt, and deflected the ball. Then he sprinted down the field in celebration, with teammates running after him.
“We got close to the first two (field goals),” Blackwell said. “I was like, ‘I’m going to time this one up.’”
The Bears became the second team in NFL history to reach 800 regular-season wins, joining the Green Bay Packers, who had 812 heading into Sunday night’s game against Dallas. The Raiders (1–3) have dropped three consecutive games.
The Bears are on their bye week and will have extra time to prepare for the Washington Commanders on “Monday Night Football, Oct. 13, from D.C.
