Victor Cruz knows all about what it is like to play wide receiver in New York, as he played for the Giants from 2011 to 2016. Like Giants fans all across the country, he was crushed to see the injury to superstar wide receiver Malik Nabers, who is out for the season with a torn ACL.
With Nabers out, the team is lacking depth at the wide receiver position, and Cruz is calling for the team to bring back former star Odell Beckham Jr.
“It would be incredible for him to come back to the Giants,” Cruz told GiantsWire earlier in the week. “I think a place obviously where he’s called home early on in his career, a place that gave him his opportunity to become who he is today and to show his ability and put his ability on the map and give him a platform to do so, I think will be tremendous for his career. Every athlete wants that full circle moment, right?”
Bringing back Beckham would be a nostalgic moment for the fans. However, if Beckham is healthy and can still play, he could definitely come in and make things a little easier for rookie Jaxson Dart.
Beckham was a teammate of Cruz in New York from 2014-2016, as Beckham with the Giants through the 2018 season. In New York is where Beckham became a legend, as he had at least 91 catches, 1,305 yards and 10 touchdownsa in each of his first three seasons.
However, he suffered an injury at MetLife Stadium similar to how Nabers did. He ironically enough was going against the Los Angeles Chargers as well, and he fractured his ankle during the 2017 season. He came back the following year, and once again had another 1,000 yard season, but was traded to the Browns after the season.
Last season, Beckham was in Miami, and had only nine catches for 55 yards.
As great as his career started in New York, it ended on a real sour note when they sent him to Cleveland. This offers both sides the opportunity to end the narrative on Beckham in New York, while also giving the receiver an opportunity he can still play.
Some things just make too much sense, and if Cruz has his say in the situation, then Beckham will be back in New York in the near future.
