Ex-QB Mark Sanchez Stabbed, Hospitalized, and Now Facing Arrest

Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports broadcaster Mark Sanchez was hospitalized early Saturday morning following a stabbing incident in downtown Indianapolis. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), Sanchez, 38, was later arrested at the hospital and now faces three potential misdemeanor charges stemming from the altercation.

Law enforcers confirmed that Sanchez was suspected of battery with injury, an illegal entry into a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. Police said they are not seeking any other suspects, and the determination of formal charges will be made by the Office of the Marion County Prosecutor.

What we know about Mark Sanchez’s altercation

The event is said to have occurred at approximately 12.30 a.m. in the Wholesale District of Indianapolis, the nighttime entertainment area near the statehouse. Surveillance videos of the incident showed a confrontation between two men, one with cuts and the other, who was later identified as Sanchez, with stab wounds.

Sanchez was taken to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition. Fox Sports released a statement of appreciation to the medical staff attending to Sanchez and asked that he be left alone with his family during the ongoing investigation.

Sanchez was set to announce as a commentator in Sunday’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, but will no longer appear on the air.

The former quarterback of the New York Jets rose to fame after leading the team to consecutive AFC Championship appearances in 2009 and 2010.He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Commanders after leaving New York, retiring in 2019, and moving into sports broadcasting.

Messages of support have been posted on social media by fans, other former teammates, and NFL organizations in the hope that Sanchez recovers and clarity during the investigation.
