The latest Manchester City and Brentford injury news ahead of their match this Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side have the opportunity to climb further up the table on Sunday with an important three points. The main aim is to close the gap on those at the top of the table, with Liverpool already slipping up against Crystal Palace.

City are now unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions. After breaking their streak of defeats with a dominant 3-0 win in the Manchester Derby, City have gone on to draw against Arsenal and thump new boys Burnley in a 5-1 victory.

As they prepare to lock horns at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday, let’s take a look at the latest injury and fitness updates.

Man City injury news ahead of Brentford

Guardiola provided minimal updates on existing injuries during his pre-match presser but confirmed no new setbacks have been encountered.

“We train this afternoon but it looks good, no one left without a problem.”

On Rodri, whose minutes are being managed, he added after the Monaco match: “Rodri could not play three days before because his knee was in a bad condition.”

Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov remain out of action with their respective injuries.

Guardiola confirmed back in August that Cherki would be out for ‘seven or eight weeks’. Marmoush suffered an injury setback while on international duty and was quoted a potential return before the international break. However, the manager did not confirm he would be available for Brentford during his press conference, so it seems unlikely he will feature.

Similarly, Khusanov has had a Brentford return teased, but nothing has been confirmed. Ahead of City’s meeting with Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup, Guardiola said he would be ‘out for the next three games’. That takes him to today, but there has been no mention of his certain return.

Meanwhile, little has been said about when Ait-Nouri might be back for the team.

Double fitness boost for Brentford

The Bees have had two pieces of good news as Fabio Carvalho and Reiss Nelson have both been confirmed to be in contention to face City on Sunday.

Brentford could also see the return of Gustavo Nunes, who has not featured for the side since pre-season. The club’s official update says he ‘may be available to add to the matchday squad’ or he could be included in Brentford B team fixtures after returning to fitness this week.

As for Paris Maghoma, he is not expected to feature against City as he is still ‘building his fitness’. The midfielder has been training with the B team this week.
