Real Madrid's Rodri plan unveiled as Manchester City face huge decision

Real Madrid continue to make their moves in identifying talent that could make their side stronger for the years ahead and the new name on their radar, according to The Star on Sunday is none other than 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.

Los Blancos are reportedly preparing a £130m [$175m] offer for the Manchester City midfielder.

Rodri has been one of the important player for Pep Guardiola's side and his influence at City is difficult to overstate with him becoming the rhythm-setter in Pep Guardiola’s system since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2019 for £62m [$83m].

During that period, he has lifted 11 major trophies, including the Treble in 2023 which is a feat that remains the defining chapter of Guardiola’s Manchester City era.

Manchester City prepare counter plan to block Real Madrid move

Manchester City who are aware of Real Madrid’s growing interest are reportedly planning to open talks with Rodri over a new long-term contract.

Rodri and Pep Guardiola

Chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak is adamant about opening contract negotiations with Rodri with a significant wage increase to persuade him to stay long-term and If successful the new contract would keep the former Atletico player at Etihad beyond 2027.

City also intend to reassure 29-year-old about the project’s future especially given ongoing uncertainty around Pep Guardiola’s next steps.

If Guardiola decides to leave at the end of his contract it could alter Rodri’s perception of his long-term role at City.
