'Painful': Crystal Palace fans will love Oliver Glasner's comments as unbeaten run ends at…

For the first time in 19 games, Crystal Palace have tasted defeat, but Oliver Glasner’s clearly not worried that the good times are at an end for his team.

Crystal Palace looked to be on course for yet another win, with the Eagles leading at the Hill Dickinson Stadium thanks to a Daniel Munoz strike.

However, the game was turned on its head when poor defending led to an Everton penalty, which Iliman Ndiaye duly slotted away.

A poor showing from Jean-Philippe Mateta littered with wasteful finishing cost Palace the game, with Oliver Glasner’s men falling to defeat in the final moments when Jack Grealish struck the winner.

Oliver Glasner’s wish for new unbeaten run to begin

Speaking to the Club’s official website after the defeat, Glasner admitted the defeat was a tough one to take, but he outlined his desire to start a new unbeaten run after the international break.

He said: “It’s even more painful because we didn’t have this feeling for now almost six months.

“And on the other side, I told the players right after the game that it’s the next chapter in Crystal Palace’s history. After winning two trophies, having the longest unbeaten run, they can be very proud about it. Now it’s ‘okay, we have to start another run.'”

Palace were unbeaten in 19 in all competitions, including 12 Premier League games without defeat. Up next for Glasner is back-to-back home games against Bournemouth in the league and AEK Lamaca in the Europa Conference League.

Uncanny statistic emerges between Everton and Crystal Palace

Incredibly, it would seem this defeat against Everton was fated to occur today. Palace’s previous longest unbeaten run, lasting 18 games, came back in 1969. That run was brought to an end by the Toffees, with an away defeat and a scoreline of 2-1.

Fast forward 56 years and Crystal Palace have suffered exactly the same outcome, bringing another brilliant run to an end.

Paul Merson’s pre-match predictions suggested a draw would be the likely outcome. In many ways, Palace probably deserved at least a point from this game. Still, they were foiled at the last and will have to find a way to pick themselves back up now.
