Pep Guardiola’s men raced into an early lead at the Gtech Community Stadium through Haaland, who used his pace and strength to latch onto Josko Gvardiol’s pass before rifling into the net, meaning he has now scored at 22 of the 23 stadiums he’s played at in the Premier League, the highest percentage of any player in the competition’s history (96%).

Phil Foden came close to doubling the lead but curled just wide of the left post with his right foot, before Tijjani Reijnders was denied expertly from close-range by Bees’ goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher shortly before the interval.

After failing to have a single effort on target in the first 45 minutes, the hosts emerged from the break and immediately had a golden chance to level, with Igor Thiago racing through on goal, but Gianluigi Donnarumma stood tall to superbly block the goalbound effort.

The Bees took confidence from the chance and worked their way back into the game, threatening from long throws and set-pieces, but City defended resolutely to secure the three points, taking us one win away from first-placed Arsenal.

The victory sees Guardiola claim his 250th Premier League win as a manager, becoming the 16th manager to win 250 top-flight games with a single club, reaching that total in only 349 games, 74 games quicker than anyone else has managed.
