The Denver Broncos began the game with their first lost coin toss of the season and the Philadelphia Eagles deferred to bring Bo Nix and the Broncos’ offense out tot he start the game.
After a short three-yard gain by JK Dobbins, they pitched it outside for another three yards. On third and four, Bo Nix went deep to Courtland Sutton where the ball went right through his hands for the quick three-and-out for the Broncos to start the game.
On the Eagles drive possession, it started out well for the Broncos with Jonathon Cooper batting down a Jalen Hurts pass attempt on the first play. Hurts then was pressured outside but was able to find AJ Brown for a short three yard gain. On third and seven, went deep to Dallas Goedert but overthrew it for a quick three-and-out for the Eagles as well.
Marvin Mims Jr. got a 23-yard punt return, then took an end around for nine yards on first down. RJ Harvey then dove up the middle for a couple to get the first first down of the game. A quick pass on first down for four yards to Mims, setup a play action to Nate Adkins that went incomplete. On third and six, Nix found Courtland Sutton outside for seven to pick up another first down on the drive.
Back-to-back runs from Dobbins only gained four yards to bring up yet another third and six for the offense. Nix, from the shotgun, hit Sutton over the middle well short of the first down marker for four yards. On fourth and two, Adkins faked the snap with a hard count to draw the Eagles offsides for the automatic first down.
Harvey was stuffed for a one yard loss on first down. Nix then had his arm smacked while throwing and had the ball popped free. It looks like his arm was going forward, but it was called a fumble on the field. After review, they ruled it an incomplete pass to give the Broncos one more shot to convert on third and long. Nix, from the shotgun, and threw it into the dirt near Evan Engram.
The 55-yard field goal attempt by Wil Lutz was good to put the Broncos on the board midway through the first quarter.
The Eagles got their first first down on their next drive with a short pass to AJ Brown. Two plays later, the Eagles performed a perfectly executed run block for Saquon Barkley for 18 yards to midfield.
That would catapult the Eagles drive culminating the first failed touchdown scored in the red zone for the Eagles this season. They would get the field goal before the end of the quarter to tie thing sup.
