Barcelona are looking to retain the LaLiga title following the success of last season that saw Hansi Flick’s side pick up 88 points across the course of their 38 games.
Before today, the Spanish giants had won six of their seven games with the other one being drawn putting Flick’s side on 19 points, an average of 2.7 points per game.
One of the reasons that the LaLiga champions had been so successful was because of the influence of Marcus Rashford, who joined the club in the summer from Manchester United.
Since joining Barcelona, the English international has scored three times whilst also assisting five times helping his team to pick up crucial wins.
Furthermore, with an aim of 30 to 40 goal contributions being set by the 27-year-old, Rashford will arguably be hoping that his loan spell with the Camp Nou outfit can be successful.
However, today, in Barcelona’s game against Sevilla – even with a Marcus Rashford goal -, the current LaLiga champions were unable to avoid defeat with Sevilla beating Barcelona 4-1.
The defeat marks Barcelona’s first of the 2025-26 LaLiga campaign and one key player was at the centre of this, one of a Manchester United past.
In the 13th minute, former United player Alexis Sanchez scored a penalty to put Sevilla 1-0 up.
The goal was Sanchez’s second of the season and was his first goal in three games.
With the 36-year-old scoring a goal every 2.5 games, Alexis Sanchez will arguably be looking to continue his good form.
Furthermore, he may look to make his spell at Sevilla a success.
For Barcelona, with an injury to Marcus Rashford, patience, focus and a reset could be needed.
If this can occur, we could see the Camp Nou outfit return to their best against Girona on the 18th of October.
