CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Browns left London on Sunday morning with a late 21-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Carson Wentz threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Jordan Addison with 25 seconds left in the game to send the Browns to 1-4 on the season.
The loss spoiled the first career start for Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who completed 19 of 33 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Quinshon Judkins also had his first 100-yard game in the NFL, gaining 110 yards on 23 carries.
The Browns return to the United States in Week 6 for their first look at Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Here is how social media reacted to the loss.
“Dillon Gabriel looked good today. If you’re the Browns you have to like what you saw from the young QB and be disappointed that your dominant defense couldn’t close it out against. Teams win games… teams lose games," NFL personality Trey Wingo posted.
“Score aside Dillon Gabriel played good ball,” ESPN analyst Ryan Clark posted.
"Twice now the Browns have lost games that left you thinking ‘How did they lose this?’ We all know the answer," Mark Schwab of WOIO-TV posted.
CBS Sports noted that Gabriel became the 17th straight quarterback for the Browns to lose his first career start.
"Same thing offensively on last possession on O. Either throw on 1st and 2nd down or run all three. Coaching hurt Browns today, players did a solid job," former Browns CEO Joe Banner posted.
“Stefanski put total faith in defense with usage of timeouts - he never in a million years thought Wentz could engineer an 80-yard TD drive. Which just shows you, no matter how dominant your D is, you can’t ride that to any kind of a real season without a legit passing game,” Anthony Lima of 92.3 The Fan posted.
“The Browns not even getting an official Hail Mary attempt at the end of the game... not great,” former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz posted.
“Pretty apathetic to Browns football. Have been for quite some time. There are certainly positives to watch for, namely the rookie class. But hard to invest when they straight up told us in the offseason they were prepared to take their lumps from the W*tson bust,” Cory Kinnan of the Daft on Draft podcast posted.
“This loss is on the Browns offense. Two straight seasons of not being able to score 20 points is just brutal to watch,” Ben Axelrod of Awful Announcing posted.
“losing to Carson Wentz in the year 2025 in a game you were +2 in turnovers. pretty close to being fully out on this coaching staff,” Jordan Zirm of The Sporting News posted.
“Promising first start for Dillon Gabriel. Being able to use the rest of the season to see what he, Judkins, Fannin and Bond can build together offensively should be fun,” Matt Miller of ESPN posted.
"#Browns rookie RB Quinshon Judkins showed why he’s a true RB1 today:
• 23 carries
• 128 total yards
It’s not just Judkins’ downhill running style and breakaway speed — it’s his patience, vision and balance. Just an absolute workhorse back with real tools," NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted.
“i thought gabriel looked really nice for his first start,” Abby Mueller of Dawgs by Nature posted.
“Dillon Gabriel’s first NFL start ends in a crushing loss.19/33 for 190 yards and 2 TDs. 0 turnovers, 2 sacks. It was a solid start against a tough defense that plays a lot of games with you mentally as a QB,” Bleacher Report’s James Palmer posted.
“Fly over a ocean to watch the Browns Brown,” Aaron Goldhammer of ESPN Cleveland posted.
“Browns getting promising results from their rookie class, their trade chip (David Njoku), and then losing for draft order is as good of an outcome as possible for their long-term health,” Hayden Winks of Underdog Fantasy posted.
“Browns didn’t do enough to win this one. One first down in the fourth quarter prior to the last drive just isn’t going to get the job done. Too conservative,” Cleveland radio personality Nick Pedone posted.
