Everton boss David Moyes hits out at West Ham for showing complete lack of 'respect' last week

Everton manager David Moyes has just come out and publicly criticised West Ham United.

Ahead of Everton’s game against West Ham earlier this week, manager Graham Potter was sacked despite conducting his media duties.

David Moyes was expecting to come up against Potter’s side but had to quickly prepare for Nuno Espirito Santo’s tactics instead.

Moyes, writing in his programme notes before the Crystal Palace game, said the Hammers showed a lack of ‘respect’ for the way they went about the sacking.

David Moyes says West Ham board lacked ‘respect’ in Graham Potter sacking

Moyes has come out and delivered a pretty scathing verdict on how West Ham dealt with the Potter situation last week.

“The change was unexpected because Graham Potter had fulfilled all of his media duties the day before, only to then be told he’d lost his job,” the Everton boss wrote.

“Managers fully understand the consequences of not winning regularly. We all come into the job knowing we could lose our job at any time and we fully appreciate the expectations that are put on anyone who chooses to become a football manager or coach.

“But I don’t think that means you should treat football managers differently to the way you would treat managers in other industries. In football, we frequently see managers losing their jobs, with other people keen to encourage that decision and to talk about it with little or no thought for the effects on the manager himself, and the impact on his family or the people connected to him.

“I strongly believe this whole process can be conducted with far more dignity. In life we often have to receive bad news at different times, but bad news should be delivered in the best way possible.

Moyes ended his rant by saying: “I hope in the future, managers can be treated with a little more respect, by clubs and the media.”

Mikel Arteta also aims dig at West Ham for treatment of Potter

Former Everton midfielder and now Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also came out this week and appeared to aim a dig at West Ham fans for their treatment of Potter.

“A little word for Graham, because I think he is an exceptional manager,” Arteta explained.

“He has done that in various contexts in his career for a very, very long time. And then as a man, talking to a lot of players and people who have had the joy of working with him.

“Sad to see him go, especially with some of the things that happened on social media. A lot of the things that, in my opinion, to have the best league in the world, we have to improve. We have to make sure the people that are so important in our league are taken care of in the right way.

“I think we can do better in that and I hope we can learn from that.”
