Last week, it was all about A.J. Brown being upset that he was not successful in the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive game plan in their win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This week, it might be a different story.
The Eagles are coming off an epic fourth quarter loss to the Denver Broncos that saw the team blow a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter after being up 17-3 and lost 21-17. Philly's offense had only 41 yards of total offense in the fourth quarter.
There's going to be a lot of finger-pointing, but one thing Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and quarterback Jalen Hurts did well was get the ball to Brown and DeVonta Smith. The two receivers combined for 13 receptions for 157 yards in the loss.
At least they were fed, but Patullo failed to feed the one guy that should always be fed as well.
Saquon Barkley did not get it done on the ground
Barkley was able to get at least one explosive play after he made an incredible 47-yard touchdown catch from Hurts to give the Eagles a 14-point lead in the third quarter. While that was a great play, the Eagles completely forgot they have a decent running game.
Philly had an incredibly low 11 rushing attempts and 45 yards as a team. Barkley has six carries for 30 yards in the loss. The 45 yards is the lowest the Eagles have had in seven years.
No matter what the wide receivers are saying on the Eagles, there are zero excuses of completely abandoning the run as Barkley averaged five yards a carry and A.J. Dillon had six yards a carry.
There will be discussions about Landon Dickerson getting injured and knocked out of the game due to an ankle injury, but the team still didn't run the ball with or without him. This is a clear case of Patullo overcompensating for his wide receivers just to make them happy.
The failures of the offense on Sunday can be attributed to Patullo, as he needs to refine his play-calling. Through five games, he hasn't figured out the balance between the two. There's never a scenario where the 2024 Offensive Player of the Year should have nine touches. It better never happen again.

Maybe it's time for Barkley to take to social media and post a cryptic message to get more attention.
