When the New York Jets hired Aaron Glenn to be their new head coach during the NFL offseason, there was the hope that the franchise might start turning itself around with a new culture shift.
So far to begin the 2025 season, the Jets have not looked good at all.
After losing to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5, New York is now 0-5. There have not been many positives to take away from the brutal start either. Fans are incredibly frustrated with yet another bad performance, losing to the Cowboys by a final score of 37-22.
That being said, Glenn also made brutal franchise history due to the loss and fans are not going to let him forget about it.
As noted by Rich Cimini of ESPN, Glenn is the first head coach in Jets’ franchise history to start 0-5 in his first season.
Immediately, fans started taking to the comments section on Cimini’s post on X. Glenn has come under fire in the responses to the awful history being made.
“Can he release himself this week??? I’d say he’s fumbled plenty so far!!!” one fan wrote.
A second fan said, “He's a fraud but to be fair the personal on this team to historically pathetic.”
“Jets made a mistake not going for an experienced coach,” a third comment read.
Another fan chimed in, “He's got to go. They aren't playing for him. Defence has gone back ten years. It's something we got right in previous seasons, he's even managed to ruin that too. Jesus.”
“At least Glenn was not considered a great defensive cooridantor,” a fifth comment stated.
Needless to say, the frustration is understandable. New York fans have waited a long time for the Jets to get back to being a relevant team in the AFC. It doesn’t appear that they’re anywhere close.
Glenn came from the Detroit Lions, where he was a part of turning that franchise around. He was a top-tier defensive coordinator, which has not seemed to translate to New York. In addition, he was one of the most sought after head coaching candidates on the market.
While things have not looked so far, Glenn is in just his first season with the Jets. He should be given some patience to see if he can turn things around over the next couple of years. Dan Campbell didn’t turn the Lions around in his first year.
However, the pressure is starting to build up. Glenn is now in the record books for the franchise in a way he never wanted. Hopefully, good times are just around the corner.
