Cowboys Make NFL History in Win Over Jets

The Dallas Cowboys offense is humming through the first five games. The Cowboys improved to 2-2-1 with a 37-22 win over the New York Jets in front of 81,738 fans at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Cowboys offense got off to a fast start on Sunday, taking a 23-3 lead at halftime. Two players on offense stood out in the first half, with wide receiver Ryan Flournoy and running back Javonte Williams getting the best of New York head coach Aaron Glenn’s defense.

Per Cowboys PR, Williams and Flournoy made history in Week 5. It was the first time Dallas had a receiver and running back gain 100 yards in the first half of an NFL regular-season game.

“In the first half today, Javonte Williams recorded 108 rushing yards and Ryan Flournoy had 104 receiving yards,” posted the Cowboys PR team on X. “Going back to 1978, there has never been a game in which the Cowboys had a 100-yard rusher and 100-yard receiver in the same half of a game.”

Williams led the Cowboys in rushing on Sunday, recording 135 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. Flournoy was quarterback Dak Prescott’s top target, catching six passes for 114 yards against the hapless Jets defense.

New York made unfortunate history of their own against Dallas. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, the Jets become the first team in league history to start the season 0-5 without creating a single turnover on defense.

“Aaron Glenn becomes the first coach in Jets history to go 0-5 in Year 1,” Cimini posted on X. “The Jets become the first team in NFL history to have ZERO takeaways in the first five games of a season.”

Prescott continued his impressive season for the Cowboys, throwing for 237 yards and four touchdowns. He now has 10 touchdown passes to three interceptions in the early season.

Dallas offense looks unstoppable right now, averaging 30.2 points per game through the first five weeks. After a 1-2 start to the season under first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys have a chance to go above .500 when they travel to play the 2-3 Carolina Panthers in Week 6.
