DeVonta Smith's stunning confession Eagles fans will hate hearing after Broncos loss

The Philadelphia Eagles fan base is still reeling from a devastating 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, which marked their first loss of the 2025 campaign.

If there is any constellation, the passing game at least looked a lot better with a season-high 280 yards. At least on the stat sheet, the passing game improved, but the eye test reveals that there are still issues that need to be resolved.

The biggest problem with the contest is Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts' inability to hit his receivers down the field. Hurts only completed two of his nine pass attempts down the field of 20 or more yards in the air. That was the second-most passes thrown by Hurts in his career.

With everything that happened with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith wanting to get more targets, they got it with 13 receptions for over 157 yards, so why didn't that work out the way Eagles fans were hoping it would?

Smith has an explanation Eagles fans aren't in the mood to hear

After the game, Smith spoke with the media in front of his locker, discussing the passing game. While he admitted the passing game was better, a key part of it is still missing.

“We made some improvements in certain areas. We can still be a lot better. Shot ourselves in the foot a lot. Left a couple of plays out there. We weren't on the same page. Ultimately, we got to get on the same page and continue to continue to be on the same page.”

This was observed a few times, as Hurts often missed Brown and Smith on deep balls. Hurts struggled with seven incompletions with deep ball passes. That's not good for an offense trying to be more explosive in the passing game.

No one is going to feel good about this game, but the excuse of not being on the same page after five weeks is not a great look. The Eagles only have until Thursday to get it right before playing the New York Giants.
